Linguistic diversity
More than 800 languages exist within one country
Papua New Guinea's Department of Foreign Affairs states that the country has more than 800 distinct indigenous languages. PNG Tourism likewise describes the country as one of the world's most linguistically diverse nations.
Rather than locking the page to one disputed figure such as “839” or “850,” it is more accurate for travel planning to say more than 800. Language counts can vary depending on how closely related varieties are classified.
