Start with the easy checks
1. Search for the original confirmation
A successful online submission is designed to produce a confirmation by email or a document that can be downloaded. Before changing anything, search every folder connected to the email address entered on the form.
Search your mailbox
Try PNGDAC, Papua New Guinea Digital Arrival Card, your arrival date and your passport surname.
Check filtered folders
Look in Spam, Junk, Promotions, Updates and any corporate quarantine folder. Automated travel messages can be sorted away from the main inbox.
Check your downloads
Search the Downloads folder on the phone, tablet or computer used for submission. You may already have saved the PNGDAC document locally.
Do not depend on a guessed sender address as your only search method. Searching for “PNGDAC” is safer if the system's sending address changes.
Official recovery route
2. Use “Update PNGDAC” to retrieve your record
The official system includes an update function for previously submitted declarations. ICA's traveller instructions say it can search for the existing record, let you edit it, submit the revised information and then provide the PNGDAC document again by email or download.
Return to the government portal
Go directly to pngdac.ica.gov.pg. The official PNGDAC service is free.
Select “Update PNGDAC”
Use the update option instead of assuming that the original declaration has disappeared from the system.
Enter the requested search details
Use the exact passport and traveller information requested on the live form. Keep the passport used for the original declaration beside you.
Review the retrieved declaration
Check flight details, arrival date, accommodation, passport data and contact information. Correct anything that has changed.
Save the confirmation again
After submitting the update, download the resulting PNGDAC document and retain the confirmation email. Keep an offline copy for the airport.
When recovery fails
3. Do not guess whether the card is active
If the update search cannot locate your declaration, first check that your passport number and personal information match the original submission. A typing error in the first declaration—or searching with a replacement passport—can complicate retrieval.
Official guidance confirms that PNGDAC is free and that submitted information can be updated. It does not clearly state that repeated duplicate submissions are automatically merged or that the newest duplicate will always override every earlier record. For that reason, repeatedly submitting fresh cards should not be presented as the normal recovery method.
If the record still cannot be found
- Confirm the address bar shows pngdac.ica.gov.pg.
- Retry with the exact passport used for the original submission.
- Keep a screenshot of any portal error if your flight is approaching.
- Contact PNGDAC support at pngdac@immigration.gov.pg.
- If check-in is imminent, speak to airline staff early rather than waiting until boarding closes.
Airport-day plan
What if you discover the problem at the airport?
Use airport Wi-Fi or mobile data to open the official portal and try the update process immediately. Have your passport and flight details ready. The current ICA directive makes PNGDAC completion a pre-boarding requirement, so travellers should not assume an airline can waive it or verify a missing card automatically.
Use Update PNGDAC and save the resulting document locally.
Have your passport and PNGDAC confirmation ready rather than packed in checked baggage.
Speak to the airline desk and contact PNGDAC support while there is still time to resolve the issue.
Prevent a repeat
Keep two independent copies
After recovery, save the confirmation in more than one place. An offline PDF or screenshot on your phone plus a cloud or email copy is usually enough. A paper copy can also be useful as a practical backup, although the official guidance does not say that printing is mandatory.
| Backup | Why it helps |
|---|---|
| Offline phone copy | Accessible if airport Wi-Fi or roaming data fails. |
| Email copy | Easy to search or forward when needed. |
| Cloud copy | Useful if the original device is lost or damaged. |
| Paper backup | Optional fallback when battery life is limited. |
Quick answers
Lost PNGDAC confirmation FAQ
Is the official PNGDAC free?
Yes. Papua New Guinea Immigration states that the PNG Digital Arrival Card service is free of charge.
Can I change a PNGDAC after submitting it?
Yes. Update PNGDAC is intended for corrections or changes such as flight details, travel dates, accommodation or personal information.
Can I rely on an arrival kiosk?
Do not plan around it. Older guidance describes airport kiosks, but the August 2026 ICA directive requires PNGDAC completion before boarding-pass issuance.
Does PNGDAC replace my visa?
No. PNGDAC is an arrival declaration. Visa and entry-permit requirements remain separate.
What if my flight or hotel changed?
Use Update PNGDAC. ICA says amendments are recorded and the most recent updated information is used for official processing.
