Official help

Escalate to ICA

When the issue involves a government decision, missing official record, refund request or portal account problem, use ICA's official enquiry channels.

Official support options

Document troubleshooting

Use the portal's document list, not a universal checklist

The official eVisa workflow first asks you to select the visa type and nationality, then tells you which documents are required for that application. This matters because requirements are not identical across Visitor, Business, Working Resident and other visa classes.

For example, the Business Short-Term Multiple Entry page requires items such as a passport bio-data page, PNG business invitation, employer sponsorship letter and return airline ticket. It also states that a personal bank statement is not mandatory for that class, although one may be requested.

Do not treat “3 months of bank statements” as a universal PNG visa rule. Upload the financial evidence requested for your actual visa category.

Upload problems

A safer troubleshooting sequence

1

Check the required slot

Make sure you are attaching the correct evidence to the correct document field.

2

Reduce file size

Compress large PDFs or images carefully while preserving readable passport numbers, signatures and dates.

3

Simplify the file name

Use names such as Passport.pdf or InvitationLetter.pdf instead of unusual punctuation or very long names.

4

Retry in a clean session

Save your work, sign in again, or try a current browser if the upload control stops responding.

The publicly accessible eVisa pages I could verify do not publish a universal rule that every photo must be JPG, every document must be PDF, or every upload must be under exactly 10 MB. Do not hard-code those limits into a Help Centre unless the live upload screen for the relevant visa class shows them.

Names and passport data

Match the passport exactly where the form asks for legal identity data

Use passport spelling

Enter surname, given names, passport number, date of birth and nationality carefully and consistently with the physical passport.

Do not invent an MRZ-only rule

The public ICA pages do not state that every applicant must replace accented characters according to a separate “phonetic MRZ rule.” Use the field instructions shown by the portal and ensure the application matches the travel document.

Fix errors before submission

Review identity fields before paying and submitting. Once a government application is lodged, correction options may be limited.

Payment support

Understand the two different fee concepts

The official eVisa payment disclaimer distinguishes the Migration Services Fee (MSF) from the Online Lodgment Service Fee (OLSF).

Some visa categories have a zero-dollar MSF but still attract a US$50 online lodgement fee when lodged through the eVisa portal. The portal displays the final converted payment amount before card details are entered.

The official disclaimer states that the OLSF is non-refundable. It also states that an MSF may be refunded only in very limited circumstances.

If payment appears frozen

Do not create a second charge until you know the first result

Check application status

Re-open the eVisa portal and see whether the application moved forward after the payment page stopped responding.

Check email and bank activity

Look for the portal receipt and check whether the card issuer shows an authorised, pending or declined transaction.

Contact the bank if declined

A card issuer may block an international government-related transaction. Ask the bank whether the payment was rejected before attempting again.

Do not publish that the eVisa gateway “only accepts Visa and Mastercard” unless the live payment screen confirms that rule. Current ICA materials describe online card/payment facilities, but the public eVisa disclaimer I verified does not support the broader exclusion list in the original draft.

Application status

Use the official portal instead of guessing from processing averages

Existing eVisa Login

ICA's Online Services menu provides an Existing eVisa Login for applicants returning to an active application.

Visa Approval Status

ICA also provides a separate Visa Approval Status service. Use the exact passport and identity details required by that service.

Email decision

The eVisa portal says applicants receive a receipt after payment and an email containing either authority-to-travel documentation or a final decision when assessment is complete.

Additional evidence

If ICA asks for more information, answer that request directly

If an application requires further consideration, ICA may request additional evidence. The correct response is to provide the specific document or explanation requested by the assessing officer.

Do not automatically submit a second visa application simply because a decision is taking longer than expected. Duplicate applications can create unnecessary cost and confusion.

Avoid writing that every tourist application is reviewed against “three mandatory bank statements.” Evidence depends on the visa class and the individual circumstances of the applicant.

Processing times

Do not promise a universal 48–72 hour decision

Visa class matters

Some visas can be automated

The eVisa platform says an application may be automatically granted or may require further consideration.

Manual review

Additional checks take longer

Supporting documents, nationality, purpose of travel, sponsor information and character/health issues can change assessment time.

Travel planning

Apply before the last minute

Leave enough time to respond if ICA asks for more information rather than building the trip around an unofficial processing estimate.

After approval

Check the visa grant before you travel

1

Passport number

Confirm the approval is linked to the passport you will actually carry.

2

Name and identity

Check your name, nationality and other key identity details for obvious errors.

3

Visa class and conditions

Read the granted visa type, permitted activities, entry conditions and stay period rather than assuming a generic 30- or 60-day rule.

4

Carry the grant letter

ICA material for online visa workflows instructs travellers to present their passport and a copy of the visa grant letter at the airport. Carry it digitally and as a printed backup.

5

Complete PNGDAC

The August 2026 notice requires PNGDAC completion before a boarding pass is issued. ICA also describes the digital card as available up to 72 hours before arrival.

6

Passport validity

ICA's current FAQ says the passport must remain valid for at least six months from the intended date of entry.

Printed vs digital visa evidence

Carry both instead of claiming smartphones are universally rejected

Official wording

ICA's online materials refer to an “authority to travel” or visa grant letter and state that a copy should be presented with the passport.

Practical backup

A printed copy is useful if a phone battery fails, connectivity is unavailable or airline staff want a paper document.

Avoid unsupported absolutes

I could not verify a current ICA rule saying that all smartphone copies are strictly rejected at Jacksons International Airport.

Official assistance

Know when VisaPNG advice is no longer enough

VisaPNG can help explain application structure, document preparation and common troubleshooting. Only ICA can change a government record, issue a visa decision, approve a refund or confirm why a specific application is delayed.

ICA's website provides official Online Services for new eVisa applications, existing eVisa login, Visa Approval Status, MICA payments, Sponsor Portal services and general enquiry channels.

Help Centre FAQ

Common application and payment questions

Where can I check my official PNG visa status?

Use ICA's Existing eVisa Login or its Visa Approval Status service under the official Online Services menu.

Is the US$50 online lodgement fee refundable?

No. The official eVisa disclaimer says the Online Lodgment Service Fee is non-refundable. A separate Migration Services Fee may be refundable only in limited circumstances.

Do I need three months of bank statements?

Not automatically. Requirements differ by visa class. Use the document list displayed for the exact visa you are applying for.

What should I do if an upload fails?

Check that the correct file is being attached, reduce the file size without damaging readability, use a simple file name and retry in a fresh browser session. Follow any format or size limit shown by the live upload field.

What if payment freezes?

Before paying again, check your application, email receipt and card activity. If your bank declined the transaction, clear that issue first.

Does every tourist visa take 48–72 hours?

No universal processing time should be promised. The eVisa portal says applications may be automatically granted or may require further consideration.

Do I need to print my visa?

Carry a copy of your visa grant or authority-to-travel document with your passport. A printed backup is sensible, but I could not verify a rule saying all smartphone copies are universally rejected.

When do I complete PNGDAC?

ICSA's 6 August 2026 notice says it must be completed before a boarding pass is issued. ICA also describes the form as available up to 72 hours before arrival.

Need to troubleshoot an application?

Identify the exact stage before changing anything

First determine whether your issue is with a document, payment, application status or an official request for more information. Fix only that issue, keep copies of every submission and use ICA's own portal for official status and decisions.
