Why Madang stands out
A coastal destination where the sea is part of everyday travel
Madang is built around water. Lagoons, reef channels, offshore islands and the harbour shape the town's views, leisure and transport. That makes it different from inland hubs such as Mount Hagen and from purely transit-focused stops.
Visitors come for diving and snorkelling, but Madang also works as a relaxed coastal pause between other PNG regions. The town has hotels, markets and visitor services, while nearby villages, wildlife sites and boat trips make it easy to build a multi-day stay without covering huge distances.
