Is travel insurance mandatory?
It is strongly recommended, but do not present it as a universal PNG immigration requirement
Papua New Guinea Tourism Promotion Authority recommends travel insurance covering theft, loss, accidents and medical problems, and specifically tells travellers doing scuba diving, bushwalking or remote-area travel to confirm that those activities are covered.
Government travel advisories go further on medical risk. Australia advises that serious illness or injury may require evacuation to Australia, while the United Kingdom tells travellers to have insurance for local treatment and unexpected medical evacuation.
