Mount Hagen (Kagamuga) Airport (HGU) is the principal commercial air gateway to Mount Hagen and Western Highlands Province. For visitors arriving for the Mount Hagen Show, birdwatching, coffee-country tours or wider Highlands travel, HGU is one of Papua New Guinea's most useful regional aviation hubs.
Airport identity
The airport is commonly called Mount Hagen Airport or Kagamuga Airport. National Airports Corporation signage uses Mount Hagen (Kagamuga) Airport, while airlines use the IATA code HGU.
It serves Mount Hagen, the commercial centre of Western Highlands Province, and provides the easiest scheduled-air access to much of the surrounding Highlands tourism region.
Flights and airlines
Air Niugini is currently selling POM–HGU services for late 2026. For most international visitors, Port Moresby is the principal gateway into the Highlands.
