Receive a PNG eVisa Decision

A visa decision is not something to file away unread. Open the approval, compare it with the passport you will travel on, read the permit conditions carefully and deal with any mismatch before you book the rest of the trip around it.

Decision email

Keep the approval email and attachment together

ICA's eVisa workflow says that applications eligible for automatic grant receive an email containing an Authority to Travel document. Applications that need further assessment receive their final decision by email once processing is complete.

Save the email itself, the attached decision document and any application or payment references in one folder. An offline copy is useful if you lose connectivity during airline check-in or transit.

Do not edit the government document. If a name, passport number or other detail appears wrong, preserve the original decision and raise the discrepancy with ICA.

Verification 1

Compare the decision with the physical passport

The permit is linked to the travel document used in the application. Check the approval before travel instead of discovering a mismatch at airline check-in.

Passport number

Compare every character with the biodata page. Pay attention to similar-looking characters such as zero and the letter O.

Name

Check that the given names and surname correspond to the passport. Do not judge the record against a nickname or a different ordering used in ordinary life.

Date of birth & nationality

Confirm the date of birth and nationality are correct and consistent with the passport used for the application.

Name matching

Use the passport fields, not only the MRZ, as your reference

The machine-readable zone is useful for spotting inconsistencies, but the visa application is completed using the passport information fields shown on the biodata page and the portal's own field structure. Some passports represent names differently in the MRZ than they do in the printed name fields.

The practical test is whether the approval clearly belongs to the passport you will present for travel.

Read what the permit actually allows

Do not reduce every field on the approval to a generic “expiry date.” The conditions of the visa class determine how and for how long you may stay.

Visa class Confirm that the approval matches the category you intended to obtain.
Length of stay ICA currently describes Easy Visitor Permits as 30-day or 60-day classes, depending on eligibility.
Number of entries ICA states that both Easy Visitor Permit classes are valid for single entry.
Extension rules The 30-day Easy Visitor Permit cannot be extended; the 60-day class has different extension provisions.

Validity vs stay

Do not invent an “entry window” from a date label alone

Some travellers assume that any date shown on a visa is automatically the final day they may enter, while others assume it is the date they must leave. The correct interpretation depends on the visa class and the wording on the actual grant.

For Easy Visitor Permits, ICA's current class descriptions focus on the authorised stay from the date of arrival: 30 days for the 30-day permit and 60 days for the 60-day permit, with single-entry conditions. Read the grant document together with the current visa-class description rather than applying a generic rule to every date shown.

Use the wording on your own grant. If a field is unclear, confirm it with ICA before booking travel around an assumption.

Single entry

Leaving Papua New Guinea normally ends the use of a single-entry permit

ICA states that the 30-day and 60-day Easy Visitor Permits are single-entry visas. That matters if your itinerary includes Australia, Solomon Islands, Indonesia or another country between two PNG stays.

No casual re-entry

A single-entry permit is not designed for leaving PNG and returning on the same permission.

Check multi-country itineraries early

If your trip crosses the PNG border more than once, confirm the correct immigration route before booking flights.

Do not assume a side trip is harmless

A short visit to another country can still count as leaving PNG and therefore affect your ability to re-enter on a single-entry permit.

If something is wrong

Contact ICA before travel instead of building a workaround

If the decision does not match the passport or application, keep the original document unchanged and raise the discrepancy through ICA's official contact or enquiry process.

Do not automatically re-apply just because departure is close. A second application can create duplicate records and does not guarantee a faster or cleaner outcome. Check the existing case with ICA first unless ICA specifically instructs you to submit again.

If the visa was linked to an old passport and you now have a new passport, the key task is to connect the existing entry permit to the new travel document correctly.

Retain a copy of the old passport biodata page and the new passport details where available.

ICA publishes a process for re-evidencing entry permits when a passport is replaced or renewed.

Not every eVisa application reaches approval in the same way

ICA distinguishes automatically granted applications from applications that need further assessment. That means the timing and type of email you receive can differ.

ICA says eligible automatically granted cases receive an email containing an Authority to Travel document.

Further assessment

Applications needing more consideration receive a decision email after assessment is complete.

Additional information

ICA may request further documents or information before making a final decision. Respond against the existing application rather than starting over without instruction.

Stay and extension rules

The 30-day and 60-day permits should not be treated as interchangeable

ICA currently states that the Easy Visitor Permit (30 Day) authorises a single entry and a 30-day stay from arrival, and that an extension is not permitted.

The Easy Visitor Permit (60 Day) is also a single-entry permit for eligible passport holders and has separate extension provisions. Read the class-specific conditions rather than copying the 30-day rule onto a 60-day approval or vice versa.
