Travel to Papua New Guinea With an eVisa

An approved eVisa gets you to the travel stage, but airline check-in and border entry still depend on matching documents. Your passport, visa details, PNG Digital Arrival Card and travel information should all tell the same story before you reach the airport.

Before departure day

Check that the passport and eVisa still match

The passport you present for travel should be the same passport connected to your visa approval. Check the passport number, full name, nationality and date of birth on the approval before you leave home.

ICA's current guidance says your passport should be valid for at least six months from the date you intend to enter Papua New Guinea. If you obtained a new passport after the visa was issued, do not assume the old approval automatically transfers without further action.

Do not travel with an unresolved passport mismatch.If your passport number has changed or an approval contains incorrect identity information, resolve it before airline check-in rather than hoping the issue can be fixed at the border.

Mandatory pre-arrival requirement

Complete the PNG Digital Arrival Card before airline check-in

ICA's 6 August 2026 directive requires the PNG Digital Arrival Card for PNG citizens, permanent residents and all foreign nationals before the boarding pass is issued for travel to Papua New Guinea.

It replaces the old paper process

The PNGDAC was introduced as the electronic replacement for the traditional paper arrival card. It collects personal, travel and declaration information before arrival.

It is not a visa

Completing the PNGDAC does not give you permission to enter PNG. You still need the visa or immigration status that applies to your travel.

Keep the confirmation

Save the confirmation email or other completion evidence so you can show it during airline or border processing if requested.

At your departure airport

Airline check-in is the first document-control point

Airlines must confirm that a traveller appears to meet destination entry requirements before boarding. Have your documents accessible instead of buried in checked luggage.

Present the passport

The passport should match the number and identity details linked to the PNG visa approval.

Show visa evidence if requested

Keep an offline digital copy and a printed copy of the approval for practical backup. Current ICA public guidance does not state that a printed copy is the only acceptable form for every airline.

Show PNGDAC completion

The current ICA directive requires completion before issuance of the boarding pass.

Be ready with onward plans

ICA may require evidence that a visitor intends to leave PNG at the end of the permitted stay. Keep return or onward travel evidence available.

Carry-on documents

Approval does not remove the border check

After arrival at an international port of entry, immigration officers can verify your passport, visa status, travel purpose and other entry information before admitting you to Papua New Guinea.

Present your passport and keep your visa approval available. Border officers can confirm the visa electronically and may ask questions about the visit.

Purpose and stay

Be able to explain why you are visiting, where you are staying and how long you intend to remain. Your answers should be consistent with the visa class.

Entry decision

A visa is permission to seek entry under its conditions; final admission remains subject to border processing and compliance with PNG immigration law.

Do not rely on unverified biometric claims.Current public ICA material does not establish that every eVisa traveller is universally required to complete fingerprint and facial capture at the counter, so this guide does not state that as a standard step.

Jacksons International Airport

Port Moresby is the main international gateway for most air travellers

Many international visitors first enter Papua New Guinea through Jacksons International Airport in Port Moresby. If you have a domestic flight to another province, allow enough time for immigration, baggage collection, customs and any terminal or check-in procedures required for the onward flight.

Do not describe Jacksons as PNG's only possible international entry point. Papua New Guinea has other designated international ports of entry, even though Port Moresby is the principal gateway for most scheduled international air travel.

Customs & biosecurity

Declare goods truthfully—even when you are unsure

PNG Customs requires arriving passengers to make truthful declarations. Food, plants, animal products and other controlled goods receive particular attention because of customs and quarantine rules.

After baggage collection

A declaration can lead to questions or inspection

PNG Customs says baggage may be selected for inspection based on the traveller's declaration or an officer's assessment. Declaring an item does not automatically mean it will be confiscated; it allows the border authority to decide whether the item can enter, requires treatment, or must be surrendered.

If you are unsure whether an item counts as food, plant material, an animal product or another controlled good, declaring it is safer than concealing it. False or misleading declarations can be offences.

Do not publish a blanket claim that every bag is X-rayed or screened by dogs.Customs confirms that baggage may be selected for inspection, but current public guidance does not say every arriving bag universally goes through both X-ray and canine screening.
