ICA states that everyone travelling to PNG must present a valid and approved travel document as evidence of identity and nationality. A passport is the common and preferred document.

Machine-readable zone
Keep the MRZ visible, but do not invent a universal MRZ-only name rule
The machine-readable zone at the bottom of a passport biodata page is valuable identity evidence. A clean scan should include it. However, the current public ICA eVisa material reviewed here does not state that every applicant with an accented or non-English character must replace the legal passport spelling with the MRZ transliteration.
Keep MRZ visible
Do not crop off the machine-readable lines at the bottom of the biodata page.
Follow the field label
If the eVisa form asks for surname and given names, enter them as instructed by that field.
Do not improvise transliteration
Use the passport and the live form instructions rather than guessing how ICA expects accents to be converted.
Check punctuation
Hyphens, spaces and multiple surnames should be handled consistently with the passport and form.
Check passport number carefully

Avoid switching between passports mid-process unless ICA confirms how the permit should be handled.
New or replaced passport
ICA has a re-evidencing process when passport details change
ICA states that Entry Permits are issued for the period of validity of the passport. Where the Entry Permit extends beyond the old passport's validity, a new Entry Permit can be evidenced once a new passport has been obtained.
ICA also states that when an applicant obtains a new passport, the Entry Permit can be issued for the balance of the approved stay through the re-evidencing process.
Practical point:
if your passport is lost, renewed, damaged or replaced after visa approval, do not assume the old eVisa automatically follows the new passport number. Check the ICA re-evidencing process before travel.
