Fee and receipt checks

Pay a Papua New Guinea Visa Fee

Papua New Guinea does not have one flat visa price. The amount depends on the visa class, whether a Migration Service Fee applies, and whether the application is lodged online. Review the live total shown by ICA before authorising payment, then keep the receipt and payment history with the rest of your application records.

  • Visa-class fees differ substantially
  • Some visa classes have a US$0 Migration Service Fee
  • Online applications can carry a US$50-equivalent lodgement fee
  • Current ICA payment guidance says transactions are processed in PGK

Why the amount varies

The visa class determines the charge—not a generic tourist or business label

ICA uses visa classes with their own Migration Service Fee rules. Some classes have no MSF, while others carry substantial fees. Online applications may also include a separate online lodgement charge.

This is why fee pages should not publish one universal “PNG visa fee.” The correct amount is the amount attached to the specific visa class and displayed by the live ICA system before payment.

Do not choose a visa by price. A lower-fee class is not a substitute for the category that matches the purpose of travel.

Visa class fee structure

Use current class-specific ICA fees

The figures below illustrate why the exact visa class matters. Always check the live class description before payment because fees can change.

Visa example Current ICA fee guidance What this means
Easy Visitor Permit – 30 days No Migration Service Fee; online application attracts a US$50-equivalent online lodgement fee. The permit itself may have a zero MSF while the online lodgement still carries a charge.
Easy Visitor Permit – 60 days No Migration Service Fee; online application attracts a US$50-equivalent online lodgement fee. Eligibility matters; the 60-day class is not available to every passport.
Restricted Employment Visa ICA currently lists a US$350 MSF plus an additional US$50 online administrative / lodgement charge for online applications. Employment categories should never inherit visitor pricing.
Selected business / specialist classes Current class pages can list MSFs such as US$190, US$380 or other amounts plus the online lodgement charge where applicable. Read the exact class page rather than publishing an approximate “business visa range.”
Do not publish “business visas cost US$100–250” as a general rule. Current ICA class pages show fees outside that range for some categories.

Currency

ICA uses USD-equivalent visa rates but currently processes payments in PNG Kina

ICA's current MICA FAQ states that all payments are processed in Papua New Guinean Kina (PGK). For visa products, ICA uses a USD-to-PGK equivalent rate and shows the equivalent rate in the product information.

Base visa rate

Visa-class pages may describe the MSF or online lodgement amount using a US-dollar base figure.

Converted for payment

ICA says fees added to the basket are converted to PGK before processing through the payment system.

Your bank may convert again

If your card account is not denominated in PGK, your bank or card issuer may apply its own exchange rate or foreign-transaction charge.

Before checkout

Use the total shown by ICA as the amount to authorise

Visa-class pages state that the total fees payable are provided by the system before payment details are entered. That live total is more useful than an old blog post, screenshot or cached fee table.

Review the visa product, converted amount and any online lodgement component before continuing. If the total appears inconsistent with the visa class you selected, stop and check the application rather than paying first and investigating later.

Payment process

MICA keeps the payment record; Kina Bank processes the card payment

ICA's current MICA FAQ says card information is not stored by ICA. After billing information is entered, the user is presented with the Kina Bank payment screen to complete the transaction.

1

Sign in to MICA where required

ICA says a MICA account lets users pay fees, track payments, submit support tickets and access previous receipts.

2

Review the basket

Check that the fee products belong to the correct application and applicant before entering payment details.

3

Complete the bank payment screen

Card payment is handled through ICA's certified third-party payment provider, which ICA currently identifies as Kina Bank.

4

Return to ICA and download the receipt

ICA states that after the payment is processed, the user is returned to the ICA website where the receipt can be downloaded.

Card preparation

Prepare the payment method without inventing unsupported card rules

ICA's public MICA pages confirm card-based processing through Kina Bank but do not state that only Visa or Mastercard may be used in every transaction.

Before payment

  • Card is active
  • Billing information is correct
  • Sufficient funds or credit are available
  • Foreign / online payment controls will not block the transaction

At checkout

  • Correct ICA fee product
  • Correct total payable
  • Secure bank payment screen
  • No duplicate payment tab open

After checkout

  • Return to ICA page
  • Download receipt
  • Save payment reference
  • Check payment history if anything looks uncertain

Receipt verification

Treat the official receipt as the payment record

MICA allows users to access payment history and download previous receipts. Save the receipt with the application documents rather than relying only on a screenshot of a successful-looking browser screen.

Download the receipt

Keep the official file generated through ICA after the payment has been processed.

Save the reference

Retain any payment or transaction reference exactly as shown. Do not publish or assume a universal prefix or format.

Check payment history

If the browser closed or the receipt email is delayed, use the MICA account's payment history before attempting another payment.

Email and account records

Do not rely on a 15-minute email deadline

ICA's MICA guidance tells users to check their spam folder when expected account emails are missing and provides an enquiry channel when issues continue. Current public guidance does not promise that every payment receipt email will arrive within exactly 15 minutes.

If the email is not visible, use the account and payment-history tools first. The absence of an immediate email does not by itself prove that the card payment failed.

Payment evidence should come from more than your inbox. Check the ICA/MICA record and the official receipt before deciding whether another payment is necessary.

Duplicate-charge prevention

A slow page is not proof that the payment failed

Before repeating a transaction, establish whether ICA or the bank already recorded the first attempt.

Browser still processing Avoid repeated payment clicks. Give the active transaction a chance to complete.
Page closed unexpectedly Log back into MICA and review payment history and receipts before paying again.
Card shows a charge Compare the card transaction with the ICA payment record before assuming a second payment is required.
No clear record Use ICA's enquiry/support process when the bank and MICA records do not make the transaction status clear.

Session and browser issues

Use stable conditions, but do not invent a 5–10 minute timeout rule

Current ICA public guidance does not publish a universal payment-session timeout of five or ten minutes, nor does it say applicants must use Chrome or Firefox and avoid Safari.

Practical advice is simpler: use a current browser, a stable internet connection and one active payment session. Have the card and billing information ready before you open the final payment screen so you are not unnecessarily leaving the transaction idle.

Payment and application status

Payment does not mean the visa has been granted

A successful fee transaction establishes payment. The immigration outcome is a separate decision made under the relevant visa process.

Paid

The required transaction has been processed and should be supported by an ICA receipt or payment history record.

Submitted / under assessment

The application is in the immigration process. Do not interpret this stage as approval.

Approved

The actual immigration grant comes through the decision process, including an Authority to Travel for eligible automatically granted applications.

Refunds

Online lodgement charges and visa fees do not have the same refund treatment

ICA's online payment terms distinguish the Online Lodgement Service Fee from the Migration Service Fee. The online lodgement fee is described as non-refundable, while MSF refunds may be available only in limited circumstances.

A refused visa therefore does not automatically mean every fee is refundable. Read the current ICA refund terms before assuming a charge will be returned.

Do not promise refunds on a visa-support page. Refund eligibility depends on the type of fee and the circumstances recognised by ICA.

Payment mistakes

Avoid turning a payment issue into a second application problem

Mistake Better approach
Paying an approximate fee from an old article Check the exact visa class and live total in ICA before authorising payment.
Assuming fees are charged directly in USD Recognise that ICA currently says MICA payments are processed in PGK after USD-equivalent conversion.
Repeatedly clicking payment Allow the active transaction to complete and check payment history before retrying.
Starting a new visa application after payment uncertainty Resolve the payment state on the existing case first.
Keeping only a screenshot Download the official receipt and retain the payment reference.
Assuming payment means approval Wait for the actual immigration decision or Authority to Travel.

Ready to pay?

Check the class and live ICA total first

Confirm the visa category, fee components and converted amount before authorising the transaction, then save the official receipt when payment is complete.

Payment references

Use current ICA and MICA information for payment

Visa-class fees, exchange rates and payment arrangements can change. The live ICA fee product and payment screen should take priority over old fee tables when you are ready to pay.
