Final review before lodgement

Submit a PNG Visa Application

Submission should be the last step, not the moment you discover a passport typo or missing attachment. Review the visa class, identity data, travel details and supporting files first. In the ICA eVisa workflow, payment comes after those checks and the application is automatically submitted once the required fee is paid.

  • Passport validity should cover at least six months from entry
  • Required documents must be uploaded before lodgement
  • ICA shows the total payable before payment details are entered
  • Successful payment triggers automatic submission

Final review

Stop here if any part of the application is uncertain

The best time to correct a visa application is before payment and automatic submission. Read the completed form as if you were comparing it with the passport for the first time. Do not rely on memory for passport numbers, issue dates or spellings.

ICA's current eVisa process says applicants first select the visa type and confirm the requirements, register, enter the application details, upload the required documents, then pay the visa fee. Once payment is completed, the application is automatically submitted.

Do not treat submission as a reversible draft-save step. If something looks wrong before payment, correct it first where the portal allows. After lodgement, use ICA's enquiry or application-status process rather than assuming you can simply edit the submitted record.

Review 2

Compare the form directly with the passport biodata page

Identity errors are especially serious because the visa approval is linked to the passport used in the application.

Full name

Enter the name according to the passport fields and the portal's instructions. Do not add nicknames, shorten names or invent a middle-name structure that the passport does not use.

Passport number

Compare every character with the passport. Pay particular attention to similar-looking letters and numbers and to passports that use leading zeroes.

Dates and nationality

Re-check date of birth, passport issue and expiry dates, issuing country and nationality. Make sure the form's date format has not caused day and month to be reversed.

Passport validity

Use the ICA rule: six months from intended entry

ICA's current FAQ states that the passport used for travel to Papua New Guinea should be valid for at least six months from the date the traveller intends to enter the country. That is different from measuring six months from the planned departure date.

If the passport is too close to expiry, renewing before submission is generally cleaner than lodging a visa against a travel document you already expect to replace.

Review 3

Open each uploaded document one last time

ICA tells applicants which documents are required for the selected visa class. Check those actual requirements instead of using a generic list copied from another application.

Passport file

  • Correct applicant
  • Whole biodata page visible
  • Passport number readable
  • Expiry date readable

Supporting evidence

  • Correct document type
  • Relevant pages included
  • Dates match the form
  • Text is readable without heavy zooming

Application folder

  • No obsolete draft files selected
  • Files belong to the correct traveller
  • Copies stored offline
  • Original documents retained where needed
Do not invent file rules that ICA has not published. Current public ICA guidance does not establish universal 500 KB / 2 MB caps, a blanket ban on spaces or dashes in filenames, or a rule that only Chrome and Firefox may be used. Follow restrictions shown by the live portal for the field you are using.

Review 4

Make the travel details internally consistent

Your travel dates, purpose, accommodation and supporting evidence should not contradict each other.

Arrival date Check that the planned date makes sense for the visa class and itinerary.
Departure / onward plan ICA says return-travel evidence may be requested in some circumstances, so keep it consistent with the intended stay.
Accommodation / host Use current contact details and make sure they agree with any supporting letter or booking you have uploaded.
Purpose of visit Tourism, business, employment and specialist activities should not be described interchangeably.

Review 5

Read the amount shown by ICA before entering payment details

Visa fees vary by class. ICA states that the eVisa system provides the total payable before payment details are entered.

Migration Service Fee

Some visa classes carry an MSF and some may have a zero MSF. Do not assume one price applies to every PNG visa.

Online lodgement fee

ICA's online payment terms state that online applications are subject to an Online Lodgment Service Fee, currently described as US$50 before currency conversion.

Check the final screen

Currency conversion and the total payable are shown by the system. Treat the live payment screen as the transaction amount rather than relying on an old screenshot or blog post.

Payment and lodgement

In ICA's workflow, successful payment automatically submits the application

The eVisa portal describes the sequence clearly: complete the application details, upload the required documents, then pay the visa fee. The application is automatically submitted once that payment is completed.

This is why the real “point of no return” is not merely clicking a visible button labelled Submit. The practical final checkpoint is immediately before the payment that triggers lodgement.

Do not refresh or repeat a payment just because the page is slow. If you are unsure whether the transaction completed, check for the receipt email, application status and payment record before attempting another charge.

After payment

Save the receipt and check what kind of decision follows

ICA states that once the visa fee is paid, a receipt email is sent. The next email depends on whether the application is automatically granted or needs further consideration.

1

Look for the receipt

Check the inbox connected to the application, then the spam or junk folder if the receipt is not immediately visible.

2

Save transaction details

Keep any application, payment or transaction reference shown by the system or receipt. A screenshot is a useful backup, but the official receipt remains the important record.

3

Automatic grant

ICA says automatically granted applications receive an email containing an Authority to Travel document.

4

Further assessment

If the application requires additional consideration, ICA sends the final decision by email when assessment is complete.

Reference numbers

Keep every reference the system gives you, but do not invent a format

Application and payment references are useful when following up on a delayed receipt, transaction or decision. Save the values exactly as displayed by ICA.

There is no need to publish a supposed universal prefix or character pattern unless ICA itself documents one. The safe instruction is simply to retain the exact application, transaction and receipt references generated for your case.

Technical submission advice

Prefer a stable setup without pretending ICA mandates one browser

Current public ICA guidance does not say the eVisa system officially works only in Chrome or Firefox, or that Safari and mobile browsers are prohibited. Practical reliability still matters during a payment transaction.

Use a current browser

An updated desktop browser generally makes it easier to review documents, manage tabs and confirm payment details.

Use a stable connection

Avoid beginning payment on a weak or frequently changing connection if you have a more reliable option available.

Avoid duplicate actions

If the payment page is processing, do not repeatedly click the payment or submission control. Establish the transaction status first.

Stop before submitting if...

These problems are better fixed before lodgement

Problem Why to stop
Passport number is uncertain The approval needs to correspond to the travel document used for the journey.
Wrong visa class selected The declared travel purpose may not be permitted by the selected visa.
Required attachment is missing ICA's workflow requires the necessary documents before the application can be lodged.
Travel dates contradict supporting evidence Inconsistent records can create avoidable assessment questions.
Email address is wrong ICA sends receipts and decisions electronically, so the contact address matters.
You do not understand the fee shown Read the live payment breakdown before authorising the transaction.

Ready to lodge?

Pay only after the final review is clean

Confirm the visa class, passport data, attachments and live ICA fee before proceeding to the payment that triggers submission.

Submission references

Use the live ICA workflow for the final transaction

Visa classes, fees, required documents and portal behaviour can change. The live ICA eVisa screen should take priority over generic submission advice when you are ready to lodge.
