A visa application can be delayed when evidence is unclear, incomplete, inconsistent or uploaded into the wrong place. This guide explains how to prepare readable documents for the Papua New Guinea ICA eVisa process without inventing technical restrictions that are not published by the authority.

Before uploading
Use a simple document-preparation routine
Scan in colour
Colour scans make passport security features, stamps, signatures and letterheads easier to review. Avoid shadows, fingers, glare and curved pages.
Check every page at 100%
Open the finished file before upload. Zoom in and confirm that names, passport numbers, dates, signatures and financial figures can be read without guessing.
Keep the file reasonably small
Compress oversized scans if the portal rejects or times out on them, but do not compress so aggressively that text becomes fuzzy.
Use simple filenames
Short filenames such as Passport.pdf, Return_Flight.pdf or Sponsor_Letter.pdf are easier to organise and troubleshoot.
Save a complete offline copy
Keep the same evidence bundle you submitted so you can answer a request for more information or show supporting evidence at the border if asked.
Technical limits
Do not turn troubleshooting advice into fake ICA rules
10 MB limit
VisaPNG could not verify a current ICA publication imposing one universal 10 MB maximum on every eVisa upload field. Follow the live portal message shown for the field you are using.
PDF vs JPG
PDF is convenient for multi-page letters and statements, and JPG is common for photographs, but do not claim those extensions are universally mandatory unless the active upload field says so.
150 DPI rule
There is no verified ICA-wide 150 DPI rule. Resolution should be high enough for text and identity details to remain sharp without creating an unnecessarily huge file.
Filename symbols
Simple alphanumeric filenames are good practice, but VisaPNG could not verify a published ICA rule that every space or hyphen automatically causes rejection.
“70% of delays” claim
VisaPNG found no current ICA evidence supporting a statistic that more than 70% of delays are caused by poor uploads. The page therefore does not publish that number.
Best rule
If the live portal gives a specific file type, size or upload instruction, that instruction takes precedence over generic scanning advice.
Passport bio-data page
Make the identity page easy to verify
ICA visa instructions commonly require a copy of the passport bio-data page. A strong scan should show the complete identity page without glare or cropped text.

If your passport uses diacritics or several given names, check the application fields carefully rather than relying on a generic rule that every name must be manually converted to an MRZ spelling.

Use a recent, straightforward portrait
Keep it plain
A plain, uncluttered background makes the face easier to assess and avoids distraction from furniture, patterned walls or other people.
Front-facing and clear
Look directly toward the camera, keep the face unobstructed and use even lighting. Avoid heavy shadows, blur and strong reflections from glasses.
Use a separate photo
A crop of the photograph printed inside your passport is a poor substitute because laminate, holograms and scan artefacts reduce image quality.
VisaPNG does not publish an invented universal requirement such as “35 × 45 mm, 5–100 KB, JPG only” unless the current ICA upload field or visa instructions explicitly show those limits.

Bank statements are visa-class dependent
Visitor evidence
ICA's Visitor Visa page says applicants must show they are genuine visitors who intend to leave PNG, and supporting evidence may be requested depending on circumstances.
Business visas
Current eVisa content for some business classes explicitly says a personal bank statement is not mandatory, although one may be requested.
No universal balance target
VisaPNG could not verify an official ICA rule requiring every visitor to show a specific balance such as US$1,500–2,000.
If the visa class asks for financial evidence, provide genuine records that clearly identify the account holder and make your available funds understandable. Do not fabricate, alter or artificially “pad” evidence.
Travel itinerary
Use evidence that shows how and when you intend to leave PNG
ICA's published visa guides and current eVisa content for several classes ask for a return airline ticket, onward ticket or confirmed travel itinerary. The current general FAQ also says return-travel evidence may be requested in some circumstances.
A useful itinerary normally shows your name, route, travel dates and booking reference or ticket details supplied by the airline or travel provider.
Do not claim that every temporary reservation, open ticket or booking hold is automatically rejected by an “automated filter” unless ICA publishes that rule. The core issue is whether the evidence credibly supports the visa requirement and your intended departure.
Sponsor and business evidence
Business classes often need more than a passport and ticket
Invitation letter
Current ICA eVisa content for business classes asks for an invitation from the PNG-based business associate explaining the purpose, duration, location and expected frequency of visits.
Employer sponsorship letter
Some business applications require a sponsoring employer letter with applicant details, trip duration, flight information and financial-maintenance information.
Return airline ticket
Current business visa instructions specifically list a copy of the return airline ticket among the documentary requirements for relevant classes.
Upload troubleshooting
When a document will not upload
File too large
Compress it once, then reopen it and verify readability. Splitting a document may help only if the portal provides multiple upload slots.
Wrong file type
Check the active upload field for allowed extensions. Convert using a reputable tool without changing or flattening important content.
Upload freezes
Save your application, refresh the session if possible, try a modern browser and confirm the file opens locally before attempting the upload again.
Document appears sideways
Rotate and save the document before uploading rather than expecting the reviewing officer to rotate every page manually.
Text is fuzzy
Rescan from the source. Increasing digital sharpening after a poor scan rarely restores information that was never captured clearly.
Special-character filename
Rename the file simply if the portal behaves unexpectedly. This is troubleshooting advice, not a claim that ICA formally bans punctuation.
Quality control
Final document audit before submission
Identity match
Names, passport number, nationality and birth date agree across the application and supporting evidence.
Date match
Flights, accommodation, invitation letters and application dates do not contradict one another.
Readable pages
Every page opens, is correctly oriented and can be read at normal zoom.
Complete evidence
No signature page, passport field, bank page or letter attachment is accidentally missing.
Correct visa class
The evidence you prepared actually belongs to the visa class selected in the portal.
Save submission copy
Keep the final documents and application reference in a secure folder after lodgement.
Border evidence
Keep important documents available after approval
Current ICA eVisa content for some visa classes says applicants may be required to present documentary evidence to border officials when entering Papua New Guinea.
Carrying printed backups of your visa approval, return/onward booking, invitation letter or other important evidence is therefore sensible—especially if your phone battery, airport Wi-Fi or email access fails.
However, VisaPNG could not verify a blanket rule that all smartphone copies are rejected or that border officers accept only paper documents in every case.

The arrival card is separate from your visa evidence
Mandatory pre-arrival requirement
ICSA's 6 August 2026 notice applies to PNG citizens, permanent residents and foreign nationals.
Before boarding pass
The directive tells airlines and check-in staff that travellers must complete PNGDAC before the boarding pass is issued.
Not a visa
PNGDAC does not replace your eVisa, Visa on Arrival eligibility or other entry permission.

Common upload and evidence questions
Is every PNG eVisa file limited to 10 MB?
VisaPNG could not verify one current ICA-wide 10 MB rule for every upload field. Follow the live file-size instruction shown in the portal for your visa class and upload slot.
Must every document be a PDF?
No universal ICA rule was verified. PDF is practical for multi-page evidence, while image formats are commonly used for photographs. Follow the extension rules displayed by the active upload field.
What should my passport scan show?
ICA asks for the passport bio-data page for many visa classes. Make the complete identity information and MRZ readable and avoid glare or cropping.
Do I need three months of bank statements?
Requirements depend on visa class. ICA's current business eVisa content explicitly says personal bank statements are not mandatory for some classes, although they may be requested.
How much money must a visitor show?
VisaPNG could not verify a universal ICA minimum such as US$1,500 or US$2,000. Provide the financial evidence requested for your circumstances and visa class.
Does a return ticket need a PNR?
A booking reference or e-ticket number makes an itinerary easier to verify, but VisaPNG could not verify a universal ICA rule requiring one specific PNR format for every visa class.
Are mobile documents rejected at Port Moresby immigration?
ICA says documentary evidence may be requested at the border. Printed backups are sensible, but VisaPNG could not verify a universal policy saying every digital document shown on a phone is automatically rejected.
What should I do if the portal rejects my upload?
Check the field's accepted file type and size, simplify the filename, compress oversized files without harming readability, reopen the file locally and retry using a current browser.
