PNG Visa Additional Documents Requested | How to Respond

If Papua New Guinea Immigration asks for additional evidence, your application needs more information before a final decision can be made. The safest response is to read the officer's request carefully, correct only what was requested, and return the evidence through the exact portal or contact channel ICA provides.

Response workflow

How to handle a request for more evidence

1

Sign in to the official eVisa account

Use the same email address and account used to lodge the application. The official portal provides account sign-in and application processing functions.

2

Read the exact request

Do not guess what ICA wants. Identify the document, period, person, sponsor or travel detail the request refers to.

3

Prepare a corrected version

Replace blurry, outdated, incomplete or inconsistent evidence with a fresh document that directly resolves the issue raised.

4

Use the channel ICA provides

If the active application exposes an upload field, use it. If ICA's message instructs you to email or provide evidence another way, follow that instruction instead.

5

Submit once

Avoid repeatedly uploading different versions or creating duplicate applications. Multiple inconsistent files can make review harder.

6

Keep proof of response

Save the confirmation screen, email receipt or other evidence showing when you supplied the requested documents.

What ICA actually says

Additional evidence depends on the visa class and your circumstances

Visitor applications

ICA says a Visitor applicant must be a genuine visitor who intends to leave PNG at the end of the stay, and may be asked to provide evidence depending on individual circumstances.

Own-itinerary tourism

ICA's 2025 Visa Information Booklet lists a request letter, passport bio page, confirmed onward/return travel and evidence that the applicant is financially secure.

Business applications

Live ICA eVisa guidance can require invitation, sponsorship and return-travel evidence. It also says a personal bank statement is not automatically mandatory for the cited business class, but may be requested.

Common evidence requests

Fix the underlying problem—not just the filename

Passport

Passport bio-data page

ICA routinely requires a copy of the passport bio-data page across visitor and business visa classes.

If ICA says the scan is unclear, provide a fresh colour scan or photograph where the name, passport number, nationality, date of birth, expiry date and machine-readable information are legible.

Travel

Onward or return itinerary

The 2025 Visitor Visa booklet specifically lists a confirmed onward/return ticket for own-itinerary tourism.

Submit the current booking document that clearly shows the traveller's name, routing and departure date.

Finance

Financial evidence

Avoid universal balance claims. ICA's requirement is to demonstrate financial security where relevant to the visa class.

If the officer asks for a bank statement, follow the exact period and format they specify rather than relying on a third-party “minimum balance.”

Business

Invitation or sponsor letter

For business visas, ICA's live portal can require a PNG business invitation explaining the purpose, duration, location and frequency of the proposed business activity.

Employer

Sponsorship evidence

ICA's live business guidance says the employer's sponsorship letter should identify the applicant, duration of stay, flight details and financial maintenance, and be issued on company letterhead with official seal and signature.

Health / character

Medical or police documents

ICA can request medical or character evidence depending on purpose and duration. For stays of six months or more, police certificates are required for applicants aged 16 or over, including dependants.

Bank statements

Do not publish a made-up universal balance threshold

A frequently repeated third-party rule says every PNG applicant must provide three months of statements showing US$1,500–US$2,000. The current official sources used for this page do not establish that as a universal minimum.

ICA's live business guidance says a personal bank statement is not mandatory for that class, although it may be requested. When requested there, ICA states that it should be original and bear the bank's stamp and signature on every page.

For Visitor visas, the 2025 booklet focuses on proving that the applicant is financially secure rather than publishing a single fixed balance for every nationality and itinerary.

Technical uploads

Follow the live portal limits, not recycled third-party specifications

File size

This guide does not state a universal 10 MB upload limit because that limit is not published in the current public ICA sources reviewed here. Use the maximum shown beside the actual upload field.

Photo size

Likewise, do not hard-code a universal “JPG under 100 KB” rule unless the live portal shows that requirement for the applicant's visa class.

Filename

Simple filenames are sensible, but there is no current ICA public rule found here saying spaces or hyphens always cause rejection. Use clear names and avoid unusual symbols if the portal behaves poorly.

Payment

Do not automatically pay another lodgement fee

ICA's eVisa process charges the applicable Migration Service Fee and online lodgement fee when an application is lodged. A request for further evidence is part of the assessment of that application unless ICA tells you otherwise.

I could not find a current public ICA page stating that every requested-document upload always carries a new fee—or that it never can. Therefore, the correct instruction is:

Do not make a second payment merely because additional evidence was requested. Pay only if the portal or an ICA officer explicitly generates or instructs a further charge.

Do / don't

Small decisions that reduce review problems

Do
  • Answer the exact document request
  • Use fresh, readable evidence
  • Keep names and passport numbers consistent
  • Submit current travel bookings
  • Save proof that you responded
Don't
  • Create a second application without instruction
  • Upload altered bank statements
  • Guess a financial minimum
  • Send five different versions of the same document
  • Use an unofficial payment link sent by a third party

Processing after resubmission

Do not promise that the processing clock “resets completely”

Further consideration

The official eVisa portal says that applications requiring further consideration will receive the final decision by email once assessment is completed.

No universal restart period

ICA does not publish a rule saying every additional-document response resets processing to Day 1. Timing depends on the case and visa class.

Travel date approaching?

Do not assume approval will arrive before a booked flight. Check the live application and use ICA's official contact channels if the requested evidence has been supplied but travel is approaching.

Common scenarios

What a useful response looks like

ICA request Weak response Better response
Clear passport copy Re-upload the same blurry crop Fresh full bio-page scan with all identity fields readable
Confirmed return travel Screenshot with no passenger name or route Current airline itinerary showing passenger, flight and departure details
Financial security Unexplained edited screenshot Authentic bank evidence in the format and period requested by ICA
Business invitation Generic email saying “come for meetings” Company letter explaining purpose, duration, location and business activity
Medical / police evidence Self-written declaration Official report or certificate meeting the ICA request

FAQ

Additional-document request questions

Does an additional-document request mean my PNG visa is rejected?

No. ICA says applicants can be asked to provide supporting evidence depending on their circumstances. Respond to the request and wait for the final decision.

Should I submit a new visa application?

Not unless ICA instructs you to do so. Use the active application and the response method provided by ICA.

Do I have to pay again?

Do not make a second payment just because further evidence was requested. Pay only if ICA or the official portal specifically requires another charge.

Is a three-month bank statement always required?

No universal three-month rule is published across all visa classes in the sources used here. Provide the financial evidence required for your visa class or specifically requested by the officer.

Is US$1,500–US$2,000 the official minimum bank balance?

No official universal minimum at that level was found in the current ICA sources reviewed for this guide. ICA focuses on financial security and may request evidence appropriate to the case.

What is the maximum upload size?

Use the limit shown in your live ICA portal upload field or officer instructions. This guide does not invent a universal 10 MB limit where the current public ICA pages do not publish one.

How quickly will ICA decide after I submit the documents?

ICA does not publish a single guaranteed turnaround for every further-evidence response. Processing depends on visa class, complexity and the evidence supplied.

Respond carefully

One accurate document is better than five guesses

Read the ICA request, prepare the evidence it actually asks for, use the official response channel and keep proof of submission. Avoid duplicate applications, invented financial thresholds and unofficial payment requests.
