One business visit
ICA's current booklet lists four core items: a letter from a PNG-based sponsor, the valid passport biodata page, the prescribed migration fee and evidence of a return or onward ticket.
Single-entry business guideCompany evidence for business travel
A Papua New Guinea business visa application should show a real commercial relationship with a PNG-based sponsor. For the multiple-entry class, ICA currently requires a business-associate invitation describing the visit and a separate company or employer sponsorship letter covering the applicant, stay, flights and financial maintenance.
Choose the business class first
ICA's 2025 Visa Information Booklet lists a PNG sponsor letter for both classes, while the live eVisa page gives more detailed requirements for multiple entry.
ICA's current booklet lists four core items: a letter from a PNG-based sponsor, the valid passport biodata page, the prescribed migration fee and evidence of a return or onward ticket.
Single-entry business guideThe live eVisa instructions require a PNG business-associate invitation and a separate sponsorship letter from the company or employer, in addition to the passport biodata page and return airline ticket.
Multiple-entry business guideMultiple-entry letter requirements
The invitation should state the purpose of the visit, duration of stay, location of the business activity and proposed frequency of visits.
The sponsorship letter should include full applicant details, duration of stay, flight details and a statement of financial maintenance.
ICA says the multiple-entry sponsorship letter should be issued on company letterhead with an official seal and signature.
Invitation letter blueprint
The invitation should come from the business associate or sponsor in Papua New Guinea. The purpose is to establish who the traveller will meet, where the business activity will occur, how long the traveller expects to stay and, for multiple-entry applications, how often future visits are expected.
Avoid vague phrases where a more specific description is possible. “Attend procurement negotiations with the Port Moresby operations team” communicates more than simply “business meetings.”
Business activity check
Board meetings, commercial discussions, exploratory visits and business negotiations fit naturally within the current business framework.
The multiple-entry class expressly includes attending workshops and conferences and certain facilitation or training activities.
ICA's business guidance includes buying or selling goods and services and discussing the establishment, expansion or wind-up of a business.
The current multiple-entry eVisa class includes job interviews and recruitment of manpower among permissible activities.
ICA's broader business guidance can cover support for a major infrastructure development project approved by the PNG government.
Be careful: repairing machinery, installing equipment or performing operational labour may require a work or Restricted Employment route instead of a normal business visa.
PNG sponsor and IPA registration
ICA's current multiple-entry criteria say the applicant must possess a valid invitation from a PNG-based sponsor and should ensure the company is registered with the Papua New Guinea Investment Promotion Authority and located in the country.
That is different from saying every visa application must upload a Certificate of Incorporation. The official sources reviewed for this page do not list an IPA Certificate of Incorporation as a universal upload item for the business visa classes.
Employer / sponsorship letter
ICA's live instructions distinguish the PNG business-associate invitation from the sponsorship letter issued by the company or employer. The second letter is where applicant details, stay duration, flight details and financial maintenance are documented.
Identify the traveller clearly enough for the sponsorship letter to match the passport and visa application.
State the planned duration and flight information so the letter supports the submitted itinerary.
The sponsorship letter should state the employer or company's financial maintenance responsibility as required by ICA.
Letterhead, signature and seal
ICA says the multiple-entry company/employer sponsorship letter should be issued on company letterhead and carry an official seal and signature.
Current official material reviewed for this page does not say the separate PNG business-associate invitation must always have the exact same formatting, although professional company identification and an authorised signatory make the document easier to assess.
Who should the letter be addressed to?
A formal addressee can be used if the application channel, PNG mission or company process prefers one, but the current business sources reviewed here do not say the invitation must be addressed to “The Chief Migration Officer, Immigration and Citizenship Authority, Port Moresby.”
A clear subject line can be more useful than copying an unsupported mandatory address formula.
Letter date
The letter should reflect the real upcoming business trip.
If the travel dates, company contact, visit purpose or frequency have changed, obtain a corrected letter before submitting.
The official business sources reviewed for this page do not publish a blanket requirement that every invitation letter must be dated within 30 days of eVisa submission.
Financial support
ICA's current multiple-entry sponsorship-letter instruction expressly requires a statement of financial maintenance. It does not, in the wording reviewed here, require every sponsor to promise complete legal liability for accommodation, medical emergencies and repatriation in one universal formula.
State clearly which costs the employer or sponsor will cover during the business visit.
If some costs are paid personally, do not falsely state that the PNG sponsor assumes all expenses.
For the current multiple-entry class, ICA says a personal bank statement is not mandatory, although one may be requested.
Corporate evidence
| Evidence | Current ICA position | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| PNG sponsor letter | Required for current single-entry and multiple-entry business routes | Establish the PNG commercial relationship |
| Business-associate invitation | Detailed requirement for current multiple-entry class | Purpose, duration, business location and visit frequency |
| Employer / sponsorship letter | Required for current multiple-entry class | Applicant, duration, flights and financial maintenance |
| Passport biodata page | Required | Identity evidence |
| Return airline ticket | Required in the live multiple-entry instructions; onward travel is also listed in the 2025 business booklet | Demonstrate intention to leave after the authorised stay |
| IPA Certificate of Incorporation | Not listed as a universal business-visa upload in the sources reviewed | Provide if the live workflow or ICA requests corporate registration evidence |
| Personal bank statement | Not mandatory for current multiple entry; may be requested | If requested, follow ICA's bank-stamping/signature instruction |
Company status
ICA requires the multiple-entry sponsor company to be registered with the Investment Promotion Authority and located in Papua New Guinea. It is sensible for the applicant and sponsor to confirm that the company details used in the visa file are current and accurate.
Current official material reviewed for this page does not say that an overdue annual return or suspended registry status will automatically “freeze” an eVisa application. Do not state that as a system rule unless ICA publishes it.
Application consistency
Use the same legal name and passport identity across business letters and the application.
The business activity in the letter should match the visa class selected.
Stay duration and flight details should not contradict the sponsor documents.
The business location should correspond to the company or project described.
For multiple entry, make the proposed recurrence realistic and consistent with the business need.
The sponsorship letter should accurately describe who pays for the trip.
Do not upload an unsigned draft or a version with outdated travel dates.
ICA notes that documentary evidence may need to be presented to border officials on entry.
File assembly
The current ICA sources reviewed for this page do not establish a general requirement that the invitation and IPA evidence must be merged into one PDF under 10 MB.
If the portal provides separate upload fields for the invitation, sponsor letter and passport, use them as designed.
Company names, signatures, seals, dates and applicant details should remain clear after scanning or compression.
Clear filenames help your own records, but current ICA sources reviewed here do not impose one mandatory naming convention.

Common business-invitation mistakes
| Incorrect claim | Better current wording |
|---|---|
| Every business applicant must upload an IPA Certificate of Incorporation. | ICA requires a genuine PNG sponsor registered with IPA; provide registration evidence if the live workflow or ICA requests it. |
| The IPA company must show “Active” or the portal automatically freezes. | Use a genuine registered sponsor and current company information; no automatic-freeze rule was found in the current ICA sources reviewed. |
| Every invitation must be addressed to the Chief Migration Officer. | No universal ICA address requirement was found for these business letters. |
| Every invitation must be issued within 30 days. | Use a current letter matching the real trip; no blanket 30-day ICA rule was found. |
| The PNG host must accept complete legal liability for medical care and repatriation. | The multiple-entry sponsorship letter must state financial maintenance; describe the actual support arrangement accurately. |
| Technical machinery repairs are an ordinary business activity. | Hands-on technical labour can require Restricted Employment or another work route. |
| Invitation and IPA evidence must be one PDF under 10 MB. | Follow the current ICA upload fields and technical limits. |
| A personal bank statement is always mandatory. | ICA says it is not mandatory for current multiple entry but may be requested. |
