Papua New Guinea Business eVisa

Papua New Guinea's Short-Term Single-Entry Business Visa is for genuine temporary commercial activity: meetings, negotiations, trade missions, buying or selling goods and services, approved infrastructure support, and other short business visits. It is not a substitute for ordinary employment.

Permitted business activity

This visa covers temporary commercial activity, not a normal job

ICA says the Business Visa is for short-term business activities and lists a non-exhaustive range of permitted purposes. These include recognised trade missions, buying or selling goods and services, supporting approved major infrastructure projects, negotiating the establishment or expansion of a business, and conducting business with authorised representatives of overseas companies or organisations.

The core test is whether the traveller is a genuine business person or is engaging in approved short-term activity and intends to leave Papua New Guinea at the end of the stay.

Business travel and employment are not the same thing. If the assignment involves ordinary paid work, technical labour or an ongoing employment relationship, review the Working Resident or Restricted Employment routes instead.

Validity and stay

The standard short-term business visa is single entry for 30 days

ICA says that in most circumstances the Business Visa is issued for one entry and a 30-day stay from arrival.

Extension rule

The Short-Term Single-Entry Business Visa is non-extendable

ICA's 2025 Visa Information Booklet expressly states that the Single Entry Business Visa is not extendable. The live eVisa class repeats that no extension is allowed.

Plan within 30 days

Build the meetings, site visits and negotiations into the permitted stay rather than relying on an in-country extension.

Longer recurring travel

If the business need involves repeated trips, review the 12-month Business Short-Term Multiple Entry class.

Employment activity

If the role turns into employment, use the work-purpose route rather than trying to stretch a business visa.

Who can apply online?

Passport eligibility affects the application route

ICA's current Business Visa page says travellers holding passports from countries eligible for Visa on Arrival may lodge a Business Visa application through the electronic visa portal. Travellers who are not eligible for VOA, or who do not want to use the electronic route, can use the paper application process.

The live eVisa class also publishes an eligible-passport list for the Short-Term Single-Entry Business Visa. Check the current list before assuming the online route is available.

Do not confuse this with the multiple-entry business class. ICA states that Business Short-Term Multiple Entry is not available on arrival.

IPA registration

Do not turn sponsor legitimacy into a universal IPA-upload requirement

A genuine PNG business relationship matters, and the Investment Promotion Authority is the country's corporate-registration authority. However, the current Short-Term Single-Entry eVisa checklist does not say every applicant must separately upload a current IPA extract.

If ICA's live form asks for company-registration evidence, or if the case requires it to verify the sponsor, provide the requested document. Do not add a blanket upload rule where the current class instructions do not.

File preparation

Keep uploads readable without inventing portal myths

Use clear files, check that signatures and passport details are readable, and keep sensible filenames for your own records.

No universal filename ban

Current ICA material reviewed for this class does not establish that spaces, hyphens or symbols automatically invalidate uploads.

No universal 500 KB / 2 MB rule

Follow the live upload limit displayed by ICA instead of hard-coding generic file-size caps.

Legibility first

A technically small file is still unsuitable if the passport, sponsor details or signatures become unreadable.

Payment and submission

Use the current checkout rather than old card-brand rules

ICA's live application system provides the total payable amount before payment details are entered. Use the payment methods actually offered by the current portal.

Do not publish a universal statement that only Visa or Mastercard is accepted unless the current payment screen explicitly says so. If a payment becomes uncertain, check the receipt or transaction history before repeating the charge.

Dependants

Accompanying family members normally need visitor permission

ICA's live Short-Term Single-Entry class says dependants accompanying the business visa holder will, in most circumstances, be eligible to apply for an Easy Visitor Visa.

After approval

Keep the approval and business evidence accessible

Verify the traveller's passport details, visa class and stay period before travel. Keep the original digital approval available offline and retain the sponsor letter and return itinerary.

A printed backup is sensible for business travel, but current public ICA material reviewed for this page does not establish that a colour hard copy is the only acceptable form or that smartphone evidence is universally refused.

Border officers may ask to see documentary evidence. ICA's live class says supporting documents may need to be presented when entering Papua New Guinea.
