PNG Short-Term Business e-Visa

Papua New Guinea's Business Short-Term Multiple Entry Visa is for repeated business visits that do not amount to labour or ordinary employment. It is designed for genuine commercial activity such as meetings, negotiations, conferences, recruitment, exploratory visits and other permitted business functions.

What this visa permits

Use it for recurring business activity—not ordinary employment

ICA describes this visa as a multiple-entry business route for individuals conducting permissible business activity and attending meetings that do not constitute labour or employment. The current eVisa class lists a broad range of business functions.

These can include business meetings, workshops and conferences, facilitating training or a conference, exploratory business visits, business negotiations, discussions about establishing or expanding a PNG business, recruitment activity, and certain tour-guide or tour-operator functions.

This is not a work visa. If the role involves paid labour, a technical assignment, day-to-day operational employment or another activity outside the permitted business scope, check the Working Resident or Restricted Employment routes instead.

Validity and stay

Twelve-month visa validity and 60-day stays are separate limits

The visa can remain valid for a year while each individual visit is limited to a shorter stay.

ICA currently describes the Short-Term Multiple Entry visa as valid for twelve months and permitting multiple entries during that validity period.

Per-entry stay

60 days

ICA currently allows a period of sixty days from the date of arrival in Papua New Guinea for each permitted entry under this class.

Do not market this as a “border-run reset” visa. The multiple-entry structure allows legitimate repeated business trips. It should not be presented as a method for manufacturing continuous residence by repeatedly leaving solely to restart the 60-day period.

Extensions and status changes

No extension and no change of status are permitted for this class

ICA's current eVisa class expressly states that no extension of stay is allowed and no Change of Status (COS) is permitted.

No in-country extension

Plan each business visit within the permitted 60-day stay rather than relying on an extension request.

No status conversion

If the activity changes into employment, residence or another immigration purpose, this visa is not a shortcut to an in-country status conversion.

Use the correct visa from the start

A longer assignment should be assessed under the visa category that permits the actual work or residence activity.

ICA expects a genuine business traveller with a real PNG sponsor

  • No ordinary PNG employment under this visa
  • Travel frequency should make commercial sense

  • Sponsor company registered with PNG IPA

Application documents

Sponsor letters carry more weight than generic corporate paperwork

ICA's current online class is specific about the invitation and sponsorship information it expects.

Evidence of funds A personal bank statement is not universally mandatory, but ICA says it may request one.
Do not hard-code a separate IPA certificate upload unless the live portal asks for it. ICA requires the PNG sponsor company to be registered with the Investment Promotion Authority, but the current online checklist focuses on the sponsor/invitation evidence rather than stating that every applicant must upload an IPA extract as a separate mandatory file.

Use current entry-validity rules and real travel documents

Passport

Use the passport you will travel with and make sure it satisfies current PNG entry requirements. Do not calculate validity from the first departure date using an unofficial formula.

Return travel

ICA's current multiple-entry checklist expressly requests a return airline ticket. Keep the itinerary consistent with the proposed visit.

Document presentation at the border

ICA warns that documentary evidence may be requested by border officials when entering Papua New Guinea.

File preparation

Readable uploads are important; invented scanner rules are not

Prepare clean files, check that the passport and sponsor letters are readable, and make filenames easy to identify.

Current ICA material reviewed for this page does not establish a universal rule that filenames must contain no spaces or symbols, nor does it publish a blanket 500 KB passport-photo limit or 2 MB PDF limit for this visa class.

Follow the live upload controls. If the current eVisa form shows a file type or size limit, use that current requirement instead of an old third-party checklist.

Fees

Current ICA fee: US$350 MSF plus US$50 online lodgement fee

Do not say all electronic charges are billed directly in USD. ICA states that visa-product fees are expressed in USD-equivalent amounts and converted to PGK for payment processing.

Payment handling

ICA uses MICA and Kina Bank for payment processing

ICA says MICA supports fee payment and payment-history records, while card processing is handled by its certified third-party provider, Kina Bank.

Review before checkout

Confirm the visa class and total before entering payment details.

Avoid duplicate charges

If payment becomes uncertain, check MICA payment history and receipts before attempting another transaction.

Save the receipt

Keep the official receipt and transaction reference with the visa application records.

Where to apply

This multiple-entry class is not available on arrival

ICA currently allows applications online, at a PNG Diplomatic Mission or Post before travel, or through the relevant e-lodgement channel for transmission to a PNG mission. The class is expressly marked not available on arrival.

That distinction matters because PNG's single-entry business class can have different arrival rules for eligible passport holders. Do not apply those rules to the multiple-entry class.

Dependants

Family members do not automatically share the business visa

ICA says dependants accompanying a holder of the Business Short-Term Multiple Entry Visa will, in most circumstances, be eligible to apply for a Tourist Visa.

Each dependant should therefore be checked against the visitor rules that apply to their passport and circumstances rather than being added informally to the business traveller's permission.

After approval

Save the original decision and verify the passport number, name and visa conditions before travel. A printed copy is a useful backup for corporate travel, particularly when travelling with multiple itineraries or connecting through other airports.

Current ICA guidance reviewed for this page does not support a universal statement that airlines will reject all smartphone copies or that a physical colour printout is mandatory in every case.

Carry both formats if practical. Keep the original digital approval available offline and a printed backup in your travel documents.
